This is my Bible. Dewey gave it to me 30+ years ago. Its an NIV'84 which is now out of print. It is my most treasured earthly possession. It is old and falling apart and no longer leaves the house. This Bible has walked with me through life. It has guided me, comforted me, and encouraged me through loneliness, sickness, miscarriages, joys and blessings.
There are names of those I love written throughout it, those times when God would put them on my heart while reading His word. There are dates marking the day I read a certain scripture that lifted me out of a tough time. This Bible has been my companion. But its the God of this Word, my Heavenly Father, who speaks through its pages. He is God, yet so very personal. He is Powerful, yet kind and loving.
The Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 NKJ
The Word of God is able to plow through the hardest of hearts and completely change a life. The Word of God changed my life. In 1984, alone in my apartment, I read the book of John out loud and searched for Jesus in the pages. By the end of that study, God revealed His love to me and I got on my knees and gave my life to Him.
Live with no regrets. Spend time with the One who made you, thought of you and calls to you. His Word to you is personal and deep and His promises are true. His Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus. Take hold of His Word.
The God of all Creation calls to us to spend time with Him.
It isn't just a history of God and His people, its living and relevant for now, for us. Its quite miraculous in itself. There is no other book like it. Every Word is true. Its true beyond our understanding, because His ways are higher than our ways, His thoughts higher than ours. There will always be more to uncover, more than our minds can take in. This is the Word of the God of all creation. His Word is powerful.
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. Deut 29:29
This we can do.
Get alone with God in His Word. Let His Word renew your mind. Believe it. Consume it. Let it consume you. It brings hope. It is God's love letter to His children. And while you are reading, look for Jesus. He is there in every word. I pray you will encounter Him there and find His words of love for you. Let Him write His word on your heart.
